so i didn´t think i would be able to keep up my blog spot while on outreach but here i am in the internet cafe with skype but the time difference makes it so all my english buds are sounds asleep. shame...i thought i would use the time to do a quick blog. It probably won´t be very detailed as so much has happened it really hard to know where to start.
so my first two weeks were spent in Bogota...week one we did a kidz program for really poor kidz. it was soo much fun the walk to the church hall was beautiful..very steep and we were always dripping from the climb but worth it every time. most of the kidz had family members in gangs and the pastor had to walk with us every morning so that we would be left alone. dispite the suposed danger i felt very safe and we never had a problem. the children were beautiful the pastor was crazy i never thought i would see apastor dance to The prodigy but life continues to bring suprises.
the second week we worked at the other side of the city with another pastor doing street evangelism. this was a challenge for us all...especially for me. i was not looking forward to turning into the type of person on a soap box that i hate to come across in my own town. thankfully it was actually good fun. we just set up our speaker in busy areas and did drama´s with testimonies after them, sometimes we did poi on the street. People really enjoyed them we always attracted quite a crowd and when the program finished we just went and casually talked to the people who were watching. 18 people gave their lives to Christ that week. super exciting, the dramas are really powerful dealing with so many issues, including self harm, condemnation, worthlessness, eating dissorders etc.
so now onto the third week. we flew down to Leticia in the south which borders brazil and Peru. we crossed the boarder and spent one week in Brazil helping out at a base there and working with kidz. that was much harder as the language is different again in Brazil and only one of us in the whole team spoke portuguese.
This week is the end of our fourth week and yesterday we got back from a week in the amazon jungle! wooo.
it was amazing we went to three different tribes..two in peru and one in colombia. It was a laid back time and the villiage living is pretty chilled out however church is every evening and can go on for about 3 hours each night. it was a really interesting time and not what any of us expected. the villiages were more developed than we expected and you could tell we were not the first missionaries that had been there however we did have one or two babies that cried because we were white. Our time was spent doing childrens programs treating the kidz with lice shampoo and conducting the services in the evenings. i´m covered in mozzy bites but can say that i have been into the jungle (i only saw one snake my whole time), i have swam in the amazon river/washed in it and have had a kid cry when he saw me cuz i was white. haha
so that brings you guys up to date with me. this is the last week in Leticia and then we go back to the north and go to Boca Chica for a week.
i´ve struggeled with home sickness properly for the first time and cannot wait to see everyone again and hear all your stories from the past 6 months. no doubt i will bore you all with pictures.
love you all so much
continue to pray for me that God would continue to give us strength as a team and i wouldn´t miss home to much. i feel like alot will have changed when i come back to England which scares me a bit.
Love Roo

The
ok so here is my last post before outreach! At the moment i am pretty blown away as i have an amazing story from this week, but i shall retell from where i last left off.
So i went to Tecate last week, this is another base in Mexico just over an hour away, its really cute, just like a house nothing big. We stayed there and practised the drama's we were going to perform in Columbia...i have a tendancy to be the devil in some of the plays...i guess i have a natural creepy side to me. haha. It was super fun. After this we came back to Ensenada for a night, the next morning we left for a camping trip.
It is more liike a survival camp we go on...i have a few stories from that but sadly we made a pack not to tell the whole world about our crazy camping stories and all we had to do to survive. So if you want to find out about that you will have to ask me in person. mwhahahaha
so this Blog is super short as i havn't really done heeps in the past two weeks. We have been winding down the pace and getting ready for outreach. The most major event this week requires a short story:
Ok so on monday evening after we had been out for a nice meal we were all called in for an emergency meeting. Our leaders told us that they had beeen trying to book the internal flights to get to Laticia but the prices were way more expensive than anyone had realised. In total our group was short 5 thousand dollars, we were all really gutted as visiting tribes and going in the amazon was something we were all looking forward to. Basically we had twentyfour hours to get five thousand pounds and book the tickets or we were going to have to re-organise our outreach. Naturally we were all a bit bummed after that. Most of our group decided to fast and pray and ask God to provide the money. I have heard all the crazy stories about God providing money but never experianced it for real. <---I guessed that just gave it away. We woke up the next day and continued to pray as a group by the afternoon we had another meeting to discuss the plans. When we went in we were told that this morning someone had decided to randomly donate exactly 5 thousand dollars to our outreach!!!! i mean Oh my Goodness...God is soo Good.
I'm sure some of you are sat in your chairs going ...its just coinsidence but i'm afriad i cannot agree. We had twentyfour hours what are the chances that the exact money would be donated by someone who didn't know our situation. i'm still blown away by the whole thing!
we have altered our plans alittle however as during our prayer time it was felt that we were to go to columbia and just Columbia. so now rather than going to Mexico City we are going straight to Columbia and spending two weeks in the capital, Bogota.
Today i am starting to pack and spending my last two days with people from the base. Please continue to pray for us throughout these next two months. Columbia isn't the safest country and i'm a little nervous about the bugs i will find in the Amazon. I know God has got my Back and will protect us all as we go out on his mission but a few prayers backing us up never hurt anyone.
I doubt i will be able to keep up this blog but you never know stranger things have happened.
i hope everyone is well back in the UK i look forward to having a pint and a catch up with a few people when i get back.
Lots of love Ruth x

Hey sooo here is the latest update we are coming towards the end of my stay in Mexico. In two weeks i will be going on Outreach!!!! woooo. so i'm guessing you all want to know what i will be up to on this crazy outreach: i thought so. For the first two weeks we are going to Mexico City and will be working with Street Kidz and Prostitutes, then we are flying to Columbia. First Three weeks in Columbia we will be in Leticia this is in the Amazon right at the bottom on Columbia (if your looking at a map it boarders Brazil and Peru) There is a possibility that we will be camping for a week or so in the jungle and visiting some tribes but this is not certain. After that we are going to Cartajena and Bocca Chica (possibly spelt very wrong) for three weeks. I'm really super excited about it. we are spending our last two weeks in Mexico preparing drama's, and a fire show that we can preform as we going around places.
However as exciting as that is i have still yet to tell you about the last two weeks. We had a speaker Called Kenny Peavy who talked about Spiritual Warfare. To all those non christians this probably sounds really crazy but it is not about going to war or crazy attacks i promise. its actually about the spiritual aspects of things and good and evil so to speak. it was a really amazing week and he acutally went off topic a bit. we had a time when we went through and forgave people in our lives who had hurt us. it was really powerful for some people it was a time of forgiving parents who had been abusive or just made them feel like they weren't good enough or that a divorce was their fault. their were lots of tears but it brought us all closer. A remarkable time but hard to put into words.
The this week has been on evangelism and youth culture we had a very dynamic and expressive Aussie who was very funny. however i have kinda come to the end of my concentration span and am glad the lecture phase is over. Today we have been working a the skate ministry called revolution, we went and set up a load of ramps up in an area and then just hung out with some of the youth. it was super fun, even though i struggled with the language there were some younger boys of about 10 who we ended up just playing balancing games with while the old kidz did all their tricks. super fun and i wish i could go around and do that sort of thing in england, however we don't really have the need for a portable skate park...in mexico you cannot skate on the street and there are n't any skate parks to go to however there is still a huge cultureof skating.
tomorrow we are going to Tecate to vist another of the bases and to start our dramas.
i gotta go now but will fill you in one more time before ourtreach hopefully.
lots of love

catchup time
ok i have decided that i super suck at blogs....i tend to get side tracked by one story and then i never actually end up informing you about everything. so i am going to give a quick run up on all i have not said without going into to much detail.
so after my last blog we had a speaker called Luba she was speaking on Hearing Gods Voice it was an ok week i think others got more out of it than me. honestly i was super tired and struggled to stay awake during the lectures. i can't remember what we did during the week as fun but i'm sure we didd something.
ok next after that we had Jeff Pratt (we had his brother Tim Pratt on one of our first weeeks). He spoke on passion for God, it was an awsome week. he is a really funny speaker and tells the best stories so you are perminatly in captivated by what he has to say. He spoke on many things within this topic one part was about hard times. Here are my top three points:
-Healing does not mean we forget the whole memory but just we can remember without the pain.
- when we are in hard times, count your stones of rememberance...this meansl look back on the good times and reasons your have to be gratefull.
- The cross we carry is never as heavy as the chains that have come off us in our life.
i could go on about it but i am determined not to go off on a tangent.
the week after that was a series of local speakers, it as a relaxed week with no particular topic. we went up to san diago for a day and got to do some shopping=super fun.
one of the speakers didn't really give a talk but just showed video clips from you tube about certain topics and then we discussed what we saw. most were from comedians. it was a fun day the last clip he showed was really powerful and Anna (youth leader) if your reading this try and see if you can see you can look up willow creek church 1000 questions (it could be 100 questions i'm not sure) it is really powerful and will inspire the youth of the church.
we then had last but not least Tym Kemp a fellow Englishman who helps run the base. he spoke on different denominations of the church and the strengths and weaknesses of each denomination. it was interesting. i enjoyed it as it was a non biased point of view and didn't condemn anyone but simply encouraged unity between the divides.
After that week we went away for the weekend for a silence of solitute weekend. we went to a cabin and got to go off for the day on our own nothing withus but our bibles and journal. 8 hours on our own just to hear what God had to say. in the evening we had a bonfire and just played guitar and ate marshmellows. it was an awsomme weekend i went up to the mountains and wandered climbed trees etc. it was soo much fun.
Yey now i'm up to date. This week we have had a speaker called Brenda Lewis talking about destiny. she has been amazing...really challenging what we believe and debating things out with us. She is redefining our thinking into the belief that its not that God has a plan for our lives that we need to follow but more that in a relationship you choose things together and its a journey. If you have pure motives and a pure heart why wouldn't it be ok. We just explored our dreams and encourage to remember things we had disregarded as things we could do in our lives. it was fun and liberating to just feel like you could do anything. it has helped me realise how much i want to work with people and the love i have for people who are hurting. i got to have lunch with the speaker and just hear a bit about her. she is inspiring. a woman who has gone through a hard divorce amoung other things and can sit infront of you saying she never regreted her marriage and wishes her husband every luck in his new one. She sees the positive in everything and can recognise how if the divorce hadn't happened she wouldn't be doing things in India and helping the thousands of orphans out there.
it has been a fun last few weeks, we have had a valentines day party...i taught everyone musical statues and bumps...lots of fun and of course i won the game!!! haha. there has been a birthday ..Coray turned 18. cinema trips...i really recomend slumdog millionaire. And this weekend is our free weekend i have gone out and bought hair dye so soon i shall have bright red and blue streeks in my hair. we are having a girly night on base and making our own face scrubs and sleeping over with movies...yes woop fun fun fun.
i have enjoyed hearing from people and what is going on back home so thank you for the updates.
i am going on out reach in four weeks to columbia time is going so quickly. pray for us to be a super strong team and that we will be prepared for outreach.
love you all and am missing good old England.
am off to the beach now though so don't regrete being here hahaha

Tuesday 10 February 2009
ok so last post was super spiritual as i got side tracked by sweets. we have also been up to some super cool stuff...starbucks is not far away so when we get bored we often go for a drink. One night we made a massive bonfire on the beach...then we all had a go with fire poi. It was lots of fun we had a whole thing of gasoline and wrote things in the sand and set it alight. really immature but sooo much fun. it was an awsome night. the pictures are up of facebook ...i think most of you have seen them already.
we have also done local ministry at the rehab place, we painted and then hung out with someof the kidz that live there. it was super fun and we are going to be going everyweek for a while which is cool. This will give us an opportunity to build relationships with people. Last Weekend we had a Napoleon Dynamite and NachO Libre night with home made milkshakes was soo much fun. as you can imagine there are random quotes going around the base lots.
anyhow again i need to fly off as its a busy day today and i lost track of time. At the moment we have the class who are graduating this week back. they have been giving us advise and telling us about there outreach/mission phase. they have been in peru and mexico city. tres interesting
anyhow really need to run.
hope everyone is well

Week 5
Ok so i haven't written in a while- sorry guys. been super busy.
So its kinda hard to know where to start.
Week 4- we had a guy called Dean Sherman come and Talk about relationships. It turned out not to be the relationship talk that everyone expected (birds and the bees) but was actually about loving one another.
The root of his talk came from Matthew 22 v 37-40. This is when someone asks Jesus what the most important command in the Bible is. Jesus answers with two commands..."Love the Lord you God with all your heart mind and strength AND love your neighbour as yourself."
If Christians are seen as a judgemental sect then we have forgotten this command. We should not be people who divide ourselves from anybody. Would we like to be judged on our actions? no so why do it to others.
There are two commands because we need to understand Gods unconditional love for us in order to then show that to others. The second commandment doesn't fully work without the first.
Also as christians we shouldn't become people who are so involved in religion that we are unapproachable. Jesus was extremely social most parts of the bible show him with people; he did not come to the earth and pray all the time.
If Gods command is to show love to others then we are pleasing his heart by giving people time.
i could go on forever on this week...i loved it! its totally where my heart is...no longer a religion that is known for being judgmental and to caught up with trying to be a perfect person but becoming people who devote ourselves to others.
i am just going to go to the local shop now and get stupid amounts of candy yes i said candy. i live off films in the evening which requires a good amount of munch. i will continue this in a bit xxx

week two- The father heart of God
So last week was kool. we had a speaker for the whole week. his name was Jack Kody and he came with his friend skip (who played a mean harmonica and wrote ace songs). the topic was the father heart of God and honestly i wasn't looking forward to it at all. i've never really God this topic and havn't ever agreed with previous teaching i've heard about it. however i was plesantly suprised...he said that we need to understand that God wants relationship...he is not a big guy in the sky but someone who want to see how are day has gone etc. it was refreshing to have someone say that it doesn't matter what mood we are in when we come to god but it is the mere fact that we are talking to him that matters. he went on to explain different aspects of a father and how that relates to God. a very kool week.
we also managed to find the matrix and watched it one week so that the only guy in our goup now understands what it means to be the one!
our first exercise class was on thursday and it was soo funny...we went to the beach and played football and it ended up that me and coray got chucked in the sea by sojerd. all great fun... i made an awsome goaly i would like to add! ahha.
at the weekend i was in the kitchen which ment waking up at 5:45 and preparing american pancakes on sunday we went to church and then had the rest of the day. a group of us walked up to starbucks and then back just intime for the most beautiful sunset ever! and i mean ever... i have never seen one like it; we stopped at the beach and just marveled at the colours and the creation before us.
so as this blog is a little late i will tell you about the begining of this week at well.
the topic is team building....sounds fun but it is exhausting and has been a hard week. Our speaker has been Tim Pratt (yes yes being British i was the only one who laughed at his name); he is an awsome guy who is so easy to relate to...heeps of respect for him.
so the bases of a team is trust....yes trust...the thing that is soo hard. so we all had to talk about a hard situation in our lives ...it was a time with alot of tears and opening up. everyone has different backgrounds and has gone though some very different things. we have also done some great team games. yesterday we did a personality test to help understand who has what position in the team. i came out as a peaceful person haha rather than the organised one or the loud one haha...no suprise there. it been really interesting week and am really starting to understand how people react underpressure and how to best cope ( each game put pressure on the team to react and for people to take lead and communicate). Everyone is pretty tired but doing well.
so lastly today we had to do our local ministry (last week we painted a ladies house). this week we were told to go in 2 teams and pray about what God wanted us to do. everyone Got words or pictures but none of them seemed to link. so we were sent off with some money and just told to pray and see what we should do with it. so my group (Jessie, coray and me) were just walking towards this stadium as this is the word jessie got; and along the road we passed these kidz in this yard. they were really poor and cute so we stopped and said hello but then carried on walking. this road was soo dusty and had all these dogs going crazy barking...at the end of the road coray stopped us and said "guys do you realised some had a picture of this dusty road with all these dogs"
we were like..hm yeah..ok." so we turned around and there were these three dogs not far away barking. to turned back around and prayed "god show us what we should do down this road" decided to just walk back up at down as we turned back around, the dogs were gone...no where to be seen. not round a corner or in a yard...no where. so we walked up and down praying and came to the house with the kidz again. we decided to use the money to buy them some basic food shopping. the shop turned out to be next to the staduim (we recone that was like a direction from god otherwise we would have gone into town center) we got food and gave it to the family. we said it was a gift from God and not from us and they invited us in as we showed them what we had got. we then went of our merry way feeling really excited. the family seemed touched and the little kidz kept waving at us after soo cute.
so it is totally food time now so i need to go.
hope you enjoyed the ramble its kinda long again. thank you for all your comments and messages i've loved hearing from you all.
next week the topic is relationships which is usually an intense topic and we have been warned our speaker is a no nonsense guy and not to get offended with how direct he is.
lots of love to everyone
God Bless

at the weekend i was in the kitchen which ment waking up at 5:45 and preparing american pancakes on sunday we went to church and then had the rest of the day. a group of us walked up to starbucks and then back just intime for the most beautiful sunset ever! and i mean ever... i have never seen one like it; we stopped at the beach and just marveled at the colours and the creation before us.
so as this blog is a little late i will tell you about the begining of this week at well.
the topic is team building....sounds fun but it is exhausting and has been a hard week.
God Bless
